It Can’t All Be Good

I have been elated by the rapid fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promises: the ban on federal funding for gender reassignment operations, the deportation of dangerous illegal immigrants, the cessation of DEI in federal hiring, the work of DOGE, the reinstatement of unvaccinated troops, withdrawal from the WHO and the peace proposal now being considered by Zelensky and Putin. But just as I breath a sigh of relief that both Tulsi and Bobby’s confirmation prospects have brightened, the elephant in the room comes stampeding into my consciousness.

This past weekTrump announced his fix for the the war in Gaza. All living Palestinians, who have not died of hunger, thirst, toxic exposure, disease, shock or IDF bullets and bombs, will now be removed from their homeland into other countries. Trump has suggested Jordan and Egypt. These countries, though reluctant now, will somehow be convinced it is in their best interest. In these countries very nice homes will be built for one point eight million people. (somehow 400,000 Palestinian men, women and children have disappeared since the war began). I am not clear who will pay for these homes, other than it will not be Israel. Gaza will be made safe as the US removes the bombs Israel planted, protecting the rubble from any natives that might have attempted a return. America will transform the area into the “Riviera of the Middle East”. “People of the world” will flock there to dance on the bones of those who used to call Gaza home. What could go wrong? The utter stupidity, insanity, injustice and immorality is hard to comprehend.

A cease fire that had seemed to be based on the efforts of the incoming Trump administration had given me hope that there could be peace and a path toward future security and dignity for the Palestinian people. Those hopes have been dashed by this shocking plan, It has been met with worldwide rejection and criticism, except in Israel where it has full support, and by some in the US. In my opinion support in the US is in the minority and that minority can be divided into three groups. First, Jewish Americans who have been brainwashed since childhood to reserve their deepest loyalty to a foreign country, then Christian Zionists who enthusiastically support Israel in their longing for Armageddon, the return of Christ and, of course, the end of the Jews, and finally the support of our representatives who have been bought or blackmailed into complete submission. Some Trump supporters claim it is nothing more than a tactic. I would be inclined to believe that if the solution was equally abhorrent to both sides, and I would be the first to hail Trump as Solomon. Absent the support I have described nothing makes sense to me. If that is what the MAGA movement meant by “America First”, then we should just move the capital of the United States to Tel Aviv and stop pretending that we are a sovereign nation.
